The Diocesan Ichthus (youth) Camps ended this week with some outstanding results.
More than 180 campers aged eight to 15 together with nearly 100 leaders made up the four camps at Scott’s Head and Lennox Head.
Feedback from leaders and campers was extremely encouraging.
The Ichthus Youth Program is the largest single outreach in the Diocese and has been running since 1982.
In that time thousands of young people have participated in the week-long camps for senior primary, junior high, senior high school and left school age groups.
For Dorrigo Parish the two Scott’s Head camps in 2012 have been of special significance.
Our small Parish has contributed a total of 16 campers and six leaders; a marvellous achievement.
In addition our Parish and several individuals have contributed hundreds of dollars towards camp fees to enable young people to attend. Thank you all!
P.S. On a slightly sad note. Anne Goode has directed Southern Junior Ichthus for the last 17 years and prior to that participated as a 2IC, cook and dorm leader. This is an amazing and extremely generous contribution.
Anne has indicated she will be handing over the director’s reins next year to make way for increased study and training for ministry.
Planning an Ichthus camp usually occupies about six months and can be incredibly stressful and demanding, especially in the south of our Diocese where limited leaders are available.
Well done Anne! Yours has been an enormous and invaluable contribution to the Kingdom of God.
