During the coming eight weeks we are going to spend some time on Sunday mornings and in our midweek bible studies looking at the message that the Risen Christ, through his apostle John, gives to the seven churches found in Revelation chapters 2-3.
These seven churches were scattered through the province of Asia Minor – the area that we know today as South West Turkey.
In some cases it’s a challenging message. To a church that was under pressure and threatened with persecution; the temptation was to keep quiet and not to talk about Jesus for fear that it would get them into trouble.
The Risen Christ has in some cases a stark message for the seven churches – and today the church which is often feeling under pressure and on the margins, needs to hear again the message that the Holy Spirit wants to give to it.
Yet the message is from a Jesus who walks amongst the churches – A Jesus who is present not distant and who loves the church and wants to encourage and renew us in our life and witness.
Today in Revelation chapter one; we focus on the glorious vision of the risen Christ who holds the seven stars and walks amongst the Seven golden lampstands.
He is the Alpha and the Omega, the first born from the dead and ruler of the kings of the earth. This is the Christ we worship and the lord of the Church.
We can have confidence in him and he holds our future as his body in his hands.
In the next seven weeks we will look at the message to the church in seven different places and my thanks to Rev Vivian and Damien Livermore who will be our guest preachers on two of the seven Sundays.
You will be blessed with three voices instead of just one!!!!
As we approach God’s word may it be our prayer, in the words of Revelation:-
“Let anyone who has an ear listen to what the Spirit is saying to the Churches”
Blessings in Jesus
