As we have watched the news over the past few weeks our hearts break at the plight of men and women and particularly the children who have been trapped in the Syrian city of Aleppo.
Even the terrorist outrage in Berlin, reminds us that we live in a world that is fractured and broken by sin; where there appears to be little evidence of Peace.
As I reflect on the state of our world I am reminded in Luke's gospel that the angelic host proclaimed Gods praise in the words "Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace and goodwill to those on whom Gods favour rests"
I'm also reminded of the words of the carol :-
"Yet in the dark streets shineth
The everlasting light
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight"
Luke offers us a more profound peace than worldly peace - he offers us Peace with God and that is only available - through the gift of a Saviour - and that is what Christmas is all about - the gift of Jesus to the whole world.
When we choose to accept the gift that God offers - and open our hearts and lives afresh to the Lord Jesus, we will truly know what Peace is - peace in our hearts, peace in our communities, peace in our families.
We will surely know Gods favour - his extravagant grace that he offers us in Jesus
Have a peaceful Christmas
Blessings in Jesus
