Flood Rains Fail to Dampen Dorrigo’s Community Christmas Celebrations

Dorrigo’s annual Carols on the Hill quickly became Carols Inside Outa the Rain when 220 mls fell in 12 hours on the town.

The inter-church community celebration of Christmas normally is held on a hill overlooking the town.

The crowd enjoys a free barbeque supper and then watches the sun set as the Story of Christmas is re-told in words and songs.

With rain bucketing down during the afternoon organisers moved the carol singing into the Anglican Church Hall.

Performers and the crowd remained dry while blocked gutters dumped gallons of water onto the floor of nearby St Stephen’s Church.

The carols are a joint venture by Dorrigo churches.

This year Life Springs Church provided the music, the Anglicans were the hosts and Pastor  Cheers from Dorrigo Seventh Day Church was guest speaker.

Singers from Mount St John’s Primary and Dorrigo Public Schools led part of the singing.

Numbers were down this year for obvious reasons but the hall was packed and one of the town’s long standard traditions was maintained for another year.
